Holy Week is now upon us. On Sunday many of us waved palm branches ans shouted "Hosanna!" in remembrance of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. This joyful event starts the last week of Jesus' earthly life and ministry. By week's end Jesus will be betrayed, denied, abandoned, flogged, and sentenced to a horrible death by crucifixion.
I have several things I like to do during Holy Week that really help me get ready for Easter. Perhaps they might help you make the most out of this week so that you can celebrate the joy of Jesus' resurrection even more:
* Listen to the Easter section of Handel's "Messiah," nothing says Easter like the "Hallelujah Chorus"! The passion narratives of Matthew and John have been set to music as well.
* Listen to Stephen Schwartz's "Godspell," or Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Jesus Christ Superstar." You could also watch the movie versions instead.
* Read the Gospel accounts of Jesus' passion and death in the Scriptures.
* Watch one of the dramatizations of Jesus' life, such as "King of Kings," "Jesus of Nazareth," or "The Greatest Story Ever Told."
I wish you a truly Happy Easter as you experience and celebrate Easter this Sunday.
